RICHMOND, Va. (March 24, 2023) – The last full weekend of March sees CAA competition heat up across many sports, including a crowded run at the top of softball, busy Saturdays at the lacrosse fields and sports events. golf and track events featuring several CAA teams.
men’s lacrosse
This is the first full Saturday slate in CAA men’s lacrosse, with four conference games on the schedule. Starting at 11 a.m., Drexel will welcome newcomer Hampton (FloLive). The Dragons are looking to win their third game in a row and move to 2-0 in the league. Two games are scheduled for noon, with Monmouth hosting Stony Brook in a battle of conference newcomers (SNY) and Towson entertaining Fairfield (FloLive). The Seawolves are coming off a 2-0 week and their first-ever CAA win, while the Hawks are looking for that first CAA win. The Stags opened the league game 1-0 and are looking for their second win against Towson, while the Tigers are trying to break a six-game skid. The final game of the weekend is our lacrosse game show of the week, featuring Hofstra hosting Delaware at 3 p.m. | Weekend schedule
Women’s Lacrosse
Four CAA women’s lacrosse teams are aiming to improve to 2-0 in the league on Saturday, while their four opponents seek their first conference victory. Monmouth is looking to start its first CAA 2-0 season with a visit to Delaware (12 p.m., FloLive), No. 6 Stony Brook is aiming to do the same with a trip to Elon (12 p.m., FloLive), and Towson is chasing a 2-0 begins with a game at Hofstra (12 p.m., LacrosseTV). William & Mary rides a three-game winning streak in Philadelphia to meet Drexel (4 p.m., FloLive). | Weekend schedule
soft ball
Over two conference softball weekends, seven teams have a record of .500 or more in CAA play. Two matchups this weekend feature teams with at least three CAA wins. Elon (5-1), the only team to win both of its conference series this spring, will host Towson (3-3), who just won a series sweep last weekend. Hofstra (3-0), who opened league play with a series sweep, entertains newcomer Monmouth (3-3) after a pair of competitive series to start his CAA tenure. Hampton will be back in action, visiting Charleston as a battle in the state leads North Carolina’s A&T to UNCW. Finally, Drexel, who won their opening conference series, will play at home for the first time this season, hosting Stony Brook in search of their first-ever CAA win. | Weekend schedule
Baseball
It’s another full weekend of conference play in CAA baseball. Elon (13-8, 5-1) brings a five-game conference winning streak to his series with Delaware (9-11, 2-1 CAA), while co-leader UNCW (13-8, 5-1 CAA) takes a four-fight championship winning streak to Long Island where he takes on Stony Brook (7-11, 1-2 CAA). Charleston (13-7, 4-2 CAA) is aiming for a third straight series win as the Cougars host Towson (7-16, 1-5 CAA) at Patriots Point. After a midweek victory at No. 24 West Virginia, Hofstra (7-13, 2-4 CAA) remains on the road to face North Carolina A&T (10-11, 3-3 CAA). William & Mary (12-10, 3-3 CAA) hosts Monmouth (8-9, 1-5 CAA) and Northeastern (14-4) plays a non-conference set three with Hartford. | Weekend schedule
Racetrack
It’s a busy weekend at the track as 11 conference teams prepare to compete, including Monmouth opening its outdoor season by hosting the Monmouth Spring Opener. The talk of the town will center around Paul Derr Track, where NC State hosts the annual Raleigh Relays. Delaware, Elon, UNCW, Northeastern and Stony Brook will travel to Raleigh. Additionally, Charleston and North Carolina A&T will travel to South Carolina for the Weems Baskin Invitational, and William & Mary will host the Dan Stimson Memorial Invitational, where Hampton will join the tribe. Towson is also in action, heading to Orlando for the UCF Knights Invite.
Tennis
There are several big conference games in CAA women’s tennis this weekend, highlighted by Charleston visiting Elon on Saturday and William & Mary on Sunday. UNCW travels to Long Island to take on Hofstra and Stony Brook, and North Carolina A&T hosts Towson on Friday. Elon (Richmond), Hofstra (UC Irvine) Towson (Howard) and William & Mary (East Carolina) also have non-conference home games, while Hampton meets George Mason and Temple in Fairfax and Monmouth heads to Siena. On the men’s side, William & Mary travel to Texas where they face UTSA, Cal Poly and Rice. Elon (Presbyterian) and UNCW (Dartmouth) are home for non-conference action, while Delaware (Princeton), Hampton (George Mason/Temple), Hofstra (Columbia), Monmouth (Siena) and North Carolina A&T (UNCG/NC State ) are on the road.
Golf
On the men’s side, Charleston returns to action at the Hootie and Blowfish event in Bulls Bay, Delaware will play Golfweek/AGT Intercollegiate, North Carolina A&T welcomes Elon to the Aggie Invitational, Hofstra and Monmouth head to Maryland for the Battle at Rum Pointe, UNCW hosts the Seahawk Intercollegiate, and William & Mary hosts Towson as part of the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate.
Women’s events include William & Mary hosting Hofstra, Monmouth and Towson in the Kingsmill Intercollegiate, visiting Charleston at Georgia’s Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic, Delaware facing Navy in a doubles match, and UNCW competing in the Clemson Tiger Invitational.
Rowing
We have a light weekend on the water with only one CAA rowing team in action. All eyes will be on Lake Nockamixon, where Villanova takes on Lehigh and Colgate.
