Sports betting will launch in Kansas on September 1. Here’s what you need to know

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – All betting takes place Thursday afternoon when sports betting becomes legal in Kansas. We’ve put together this quick guide to help you learn more about the process.
When can betting start?
Starting at noon Thursday, anyone can place bets in person at any of the state’s four casinos or through six Kansas-approved sports betting apps:
- Hollywood casino (Kansas City) – both sports betting in person and mobile sports betting available through Sport bar stool.
- Kansas Star Casino (Mulvane) – both sports betting in person and mobile sports betting available via FanDuel.
- Boot Hill Casino and Resort (Dodge City)- mobile sports betting through DraftKings, sports betting in person at a later date. Players can still place bets through a mobile app while at the casino.
- Kansas Crossing Casino in Pittsburgh will offer mobile sports betting through BetMGM, Caesarsand PointsBet, sports betting in person at a later date. Players can still place bets through a mobile app while at the casino.
While sports betting will be legal on September 1, the state plans to hold a more official launch on September 8.
Can I place bets at Tribal Casinos?
Tribal casinos are working to align contracts with the state of Kansas for sports betting. These casinos will be allowed to launch as soon as they are ready.
Who can bet?
Kansans can use any of the state-approved platforms mentioned above within the geographic boundaries of the state.
Colorado is the only border state that offers sports betting, which could mean foreign visitors. Some experts predict that the Kansas City metro will see a boom in business as Missourians come to Kansas to place bets.
Who regulates sports betting?
Sports betting, like all games in Kansas, is state owned and operated by the Kansas Lottery.
