Sources: Chelsea loan bid for Tottenham-wanted defender Ronnie Edwards

Chelsea are preparing a bid for Peterborough defender Ronnie Edwards after seeing him in Saturday’s clash at Derby County, sources told Football Insider.
The Premier League spenders are looking to beat Tottenham and Crystal Palace to snap up the 19-year-old centre-back.
Spurs have shown interest in Edwards after rave reviews from their talent scouts, while Palace have seen a £4million offer rebuffed.
Peterborough is expecting a higher bid for its price ace ahead of the final days of the summer window.
Chelsea have been the biggest spender in Europe this summer under Todd Boehly’s new ownership regime.
In addition to their superstar signings, they have also spent heavily on rising stars including midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka and goalkeeper Gabriel Slonina.
Edwards is under contract at London Road until June 2025 after signing a further extension in May last year.
The 2022-23 campaign is his third as a regular first-team starter for the Posh.
Edwards, who has also featured four times for the England Under-19 side, already has six appearances to his name this season.
Seven players have left Peterborough on permanent contracts since their relegation from the Championship at the end of 2021-22.
Grant McCann’s side are currently fourth in League One after losing 2-1 to Derby on Saturday August 27.
Edwards could become the latest in a long line of players to leave Peterborough for a seven-figure fee in recent years.
Sales of Ivan Toney, Sirki Dembele, Mo Eisa and Sammi Szmodics have all helped bail out the club’s coffers.
