Planning Grants Awarded to Faculty and Staff for Early Stage DEIJ Projects | New

Eight staff and faculty-led teams have been awarded WPI Planning Grants of up to $4,000 for early-stage research and creative projects focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice .

The teams will use funds from the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Justice Planning Grant Program, which the Office of the Vice President, Research announced in May 2022, to examine topics ranging from mentorship for graduate students in visualizing data across languages and cultures. Grants are intended to explore issues of marginalized groups or inequalities at WPI or in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

“These projects will bring together interdisciplinary teams to collaborate on DEIJ issues, which is central to WPI’s strategic plan,” said Bogdan Vernescu, vice-president for research. “I look forward to seeing how these early-stage projects will lead to external funding and partnerships for initiatives that will make a difference in this important area.

The teams’ principal investigators will talk about their projects on September 27 at a Nominator’s Day luncheon. The event will be open to all who have applied for the grants, as well as faculty and staff interested in DEIJ.
