Pittsburgh Steelers: Damontae Kazee to undergo surgery for wrist injury

PITTSBURGH — Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin gave a grim assessment of Damontae Kazee’s wrist injury, calling it significant. A report by Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette confirmed after the game, saying Kazee would need surgery and the team would place him on injured reserve. There is no timetable for a return yet.
Kazee was injured in the Steelers’ final preseason game against the Detroit Lions. In the second half he missed a tackle along the touchline and fell awkwardly on his wrist. He remained on the field until the coaches arrived to escort him. Later, he was spotted on the sidelines in a sling.
Miles Killebrew and Tre Norwood are expected to step in in Kazee’s absence. Elijah Riley, who was signed last week and played against the Lions, could also see an increase in playing time.
