Persona 5 is getting a mobile spin-off with a new cast of characters

You read that right, Persona 5 is being released again, this time as a mobile and PC game, though it will feature a new cast of characters.
If I had a penny every time Persona 5 came out again, I don’t even know how many pennies I would have because it’s happened so many times. I know I’ll get another one, because Persona 5: The Phantom X has just been revealed, a specific adaptation of the fifth entry in the series coming to iOS, Android, and Windows. There is, however, potentially a small catch, as there is currently no word on a release of the game outside of China.
As reported by IGN, the spin-off will receive a test play that will begin on March 29 in China, and is apparently a full sequel to the original game. This time you’ll be playing as a new group of Phantom Thieves (sorry for those who love the original team), and you’ll have “desire” as the main theme. Being a mobile game, it will be free with in-app purchases, although how these will manifest is still unclear.
Unsurprisingly, you can do everything you can do in a Persona game: go to school during the day and watch movies or play baseball at night. And of course, you will also be able to infiltrate the Metaverse and various palaces. Based on some art featured for the game, the original cast will also make an appearance at some point.
The game is being developed by Black Wings Game Studio rather than P-Studio itself, but publisher Perfect World Games said in a press release that Atlus was involved in development and Persona’s character designer, Shigenori Soejima, had helped create the protagonist of Phantom X.
If you fancy a Persona patch to help you out until word of an international release arrives, Persona 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden are available on Game Pass right now, but whether the former holds up is up for debate.
