Market research and consulting firm Nimdzi Insights, a company with niche expertise in the localization industry, collected data on language technology companies throughout 2022. As part of a year-long project, the company released a report ranking more than 800 linguistic technological tools in categories.
Language technology categories defined by Nimdzi include translation management systems, translation business management systems, audio-visual translation tools, machine translation tools, integrators, marketplaces and platforms, interpretation systems, quality management tools and voice recognition tools.
The 2022 report maps approximately 200 more tools than the 2021 report. To compile the data, Nimdzi researchers looked at new additions, demo tools, and cross-modifications with companies listed in the previous report.
This year’s report pays particular attention to virtual interpretation technology. Researchers have noted significant interest in automated oral communication, interpretation, and various speech technologies.
“Remote interpretation solutions, in particular, have emerged from the shadows to become key to business continuity and care in many industries. It’s a living space,” says one of the report’s lead researchers, Yulia Akhulkova.
While this year’s report focuses on virtual interpreting technology, the 2021 report was devoted to machine translation (MT). Mt is another point of expertise for Nimdzi, which, in conjunction with Weglot, released a report earlier this year titled “The State of Machine Translation for Websites.”

The freely accessible annual report gives readers an overview of major technological advances and demonstrates the value and potential of technological solutions designed for the language industry.
