Consistency usually matters early in the season. Remember that. Cadiz, despite all the skin of their teeth last season, are floating in purgatory with no real direction and throwing darts at Denmark’s top flight players to solve their creative problems is not the solution.
Bilbao have secured the services of Inaki Williams, Raul Garcia, Iker Muniain and Unai Simon this summer. They remain a team that never expresses itself much, but is rarely embarrassed. With manager Ernesto Valverde maintaining his focus on consistency in defensive form, it’s no shock to see them concede again this year.
They won’t be here either.
The Bohs really feel like they are waiting for their season to start. I think part of that is because they have consistently gone over budget for the past few years.
But they also carry that reputation with them in the pricing models and I’m here to let you know that you can be pretty confident that Pat’s, a team that has been robbed in Europe and has won three of its last four, is going to defeat a Bohs team plagued by injuries and which has not won in its last three games.
Damien Duff may not have been the behemoth people expected him to be, but in reality they are ten points clear of Europe, after a season in the Premier League without fear of relegation. It is done. The naivety that plagued them earlier in the year was quickly eliminated and replaced with a more cautious approach.
Now? He allows his team to play with more freedom. Their games have been more entertaining since then and I wish they revved up here.
It’s a very tasty price, especially since it looks like Sligo has yet to recover from a European outing in such a deflating way. Yes the coefficient has recovered well because of their heroism in the second leg, but that counts for very little.
They are unlikely to catch Pat in fourth and the motivation is all but gone with the cup now the focus. Dundalk will get rid of it easily.
Neither of these managers are happy with their respective starts to the league season, so they will go back to type and try to play each other through some quality moments. But this lack of urgency in the final third often leads to uneventful fodder, especially when there is no context in which to operate?
Do we need to win? Uncertain. Is a draw enough? Could be. These two know where they will be at the end of the season; they just need to refocus on what they do well.
