Malky Thomson happy with three points

MALKY THOMSON thinks there were plenty of positives to take away as his side beat Hamilton 5-0 in the Scottish Premier League this afternoon.

The Gers boss was delighted to see Lisa Martinez play an hour on her return from injury, while youngsters Georgia Gray and Eilidh Austin made their league debuts in the second half.

Speaking to RangersTV Full Time, he said: “I thought it was brilliant in so many ways.

“We had a few precious minutes in some legs, I’m really pleased Lisa made her debut after 11 months away.

“The Rangers medical department was instrumental in getting her to that level of fitness where she played 60 minutes.

“Then the debuts of the two young girls, so it’s very important for their development not only that we compete in a higher league here, but we actually allow young players to develop and come into the fold and I hope that bodes well for Rangers’ future.

“Our core group really set the tone and they are dictating the standards and keeping the standards up. I’m really happy with their commitment, their attitude and the way they played today.

With fantastic goals this afternoon and another clean sheet, Thomson said it was important the team tried to keep their momentum going.

He added: “I think Rachel’s goal is probably going to be up there for the goal of the season, Jenny was superb too it was a great strike.

“They have a lot of attributes in their game and it’s one of the things we profile at Rangers that our full-backs get goal-scoring chances and Rachel kick the ball really well.

“We’re keen to keep the momentum going and that’s tough at times, but we’re trying to find small areas in terms of preparation and standards that we need to meet to keep that clean sheet, score goals and get three points.

With an international break approaching next week, Thomson is delighted to see so many players leaving with their country. He continued: “It’s really good and fantastic that the girls are going to have this international experience again.

“We had a conversation with Pedro [Martinez Losa] over there, it’s good that we have these conversations to make sure the players are ready not only for Scotland, but also for Rangers.
