Longtime Dog Lover and Pet Groomer Opens Tidy Tails Mobile Grooming in Davidson County | Business
Megan Younts’ life has moved on to dogs, but in a good way.
The 29-year-old has opened a mobile dog grooming business, and her goal is already to expand by adding a second van and offering cat services in 2024.
“I’ve always loved dogs since I was little,” she says. “We had a bird collie. In the summer, I remember my mother taking him to the vet. He was an indoor and outdoor dog. But when she went to the vet, she washed herself and she was so clean and smelled great, and that night she was able to stay home. It was a good memory and something I looked forward to.
Although she went to college to become a graphic designer, she knew before she graduated that she was unlikely to pursue a career in graphic design. Instead, she started looking for ways to combine her artistic side with her love of animals. She landed on animal grooming.
The 2011 Central Davidson High graduate worked at several local veterinary clinics for 10 years grooming dogs and other pets. Over the years, she noticed that many of her older clients stopped bringing their pets for grooming, or their children brought them on appointments. It became too difficult for them to get their pets to and from the vet, or some stopped driving. She also had younger clients talking about the wait time and how it would be so much more convenient if the grooming service came to them.
“Since I announced I was opening mobile grooming, I’ve been inundated with calls,” she said. “I’m already booked for next week.”
Younts said she enjoys getting to know her clients and their pets. She’s also not afraid of large breeds, noting that she has a “personal touch” with nervous or aggressive dogs.
