Leland Police Add New Technology to Make Arrests Within City Limits Easier

Leland, North Carolina (WWAY)– The Leland Police Department can now fully process an in-house person who has been arrested in the city without having to travel to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office in Bolivia. This is thanks to the department’s new technologies.
New technology within the City Hall Police Department includes a video magistrate system, an automated fingerprint identification system and a pulse oximeter.
The most important technology for the department is the magistrate’s video system. With this, they can securely video call a court magistrate to obtain necessary processing documents, such as arrest warrants, magistrate’s orders, or involuntary recognizance documents. It also allows them to bring a suspect before a bailiff for the service of a pleading.
“Having this technology and being able to use it without having to make that trip has been a huge plus for our agency. This is not a service that only benefits our staff, it is also something that will help other agencies here inside the county.
Chief Humphries says city safety is always a priority, so being able to keep officers inside city limits is a great way to improve that, and also wants other agencies to know that those resources are available for use when needed.
