Inaugural RAIN talk to feature food scientist – The Suburban Times

Submitted by RAIN Incubator.

TACOMA, WASHINGTON — Last week, Tacoma-based biotech incubator RAIN announced the launch of the “Uncovered Lecture Series.” Kendra Lopez, RAIN’s marketing director, said the series will delve into topics that aren’t typically covered in traditional science education. Topics include food science, skincare chemistry, a deep dive into microplastics and more.

The first talk in the series will feature food scientist and author Dr. Bryan Quoc Le on April 4 at RAIN Incubator in downtown Tacoma.

Dr. Le is a food scientist, food industry consultant, and author of 150 Food Science Answers. He is currently an independent scientific consultant. Dr Le is also an advisor to UK-based sustainable business builder Carbon13, a consultant to the international food expert network Mycelium based in Spain and a researcher at the Ronin Institute for Independent Scholarship.

“Our hope is that these ‘unconventional’ topics can cover the gamut of scientific curiosity in a way that is acceptable and accessible to those without a scientific background. Our goal is to expose our community to science and discuss all of the ways we interact with biotechnology, chemistry and biology every day,” said Jennifer McKee-Johnson, PhD, who is the scientific director of the ‘incubator.

Tickets for the April 4 event can be purchased at rainincubator.org/ncls
