Meanwhile, the ‘Seriously Red’ star now appears alongside Seth Rogen in the Apple TV+ comedy series ‘Platonic’ and while the pair play best friends who fight a lot, Rose promises they’re “a lot nicer” to each other in real life and revealed how she was inspired to take on the project thanks to a “dear friend” she had since the start of her career.
She said: “We’re a lot nicer to each other. We’re from the Commonwealth! He’s Canadian; I’m Australian. We don’t have that snub that the characters necessarily have. The show lives and dies on the friendship and chemistry of the two people. And I knew it had to be Seth [to play Will]. And it was just a matter of whether he would or not, and convincing him, but he was on board immediately, so that was wonderful.
“The dynamic is just intuitive. And we realized that first day, like, ‘Oh, yeah, okay. We can do these things, but we can’t do these things.’ It was an opportunity to discover different ways of finding comedy.
“I have a dear friend, we’ve been friends since we were in our twenties. We were roommates in Los Angeles as struggling actors. And we’re still very close, although he’s in Australia and I’m here. [in the U.S.]. But it was amazing because we lived together for so many years and people could never believe we were platonic friends. Especially on his side. All of his friends were like, ‘Yeah, but what do you mean?’ And so when they pitched this idea for the show to me, I felt like I could relate.”
