Daedalic Entertainment may be working on the 2nd Lord of the Rings game after Gollum

After Lord of the Rings: Gollum, Daedalic Entertainment may be working on a second game set in the Lord of the Rings universe.

According to an entry in the database of projects that receive a grant from the German government, Daedalic Entertainment may be working on a second game based on the Lord of the Rings universe. The entry states that the new project will immerse the player in a lush world filled with mythical creatures and magic.

Additionally, the database entry indicates that the unannounced Lord of the Rings game tells a story from a character’s perspective that has never been told before. The player will discover completely new regions and, within the scope of his role and abilities, will influence the events of the world. They will try to influence the course of events and change the fate of the world in their own way.

This project is aimed at enthusiastic fans of the genre of fantasy, scripted and 3D action-adventure games. It would have received total funding of 2,036,663 euros.

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an action-adventure video game currently in development by Daedalic Entertainment and co-published by Daedalic Entertainment and Nacon. Set in the fictional world of JRR Tolkien’s Middle-earth, the game explores the history of Gollum eight years before his appearance in The Lord of the Rings. It is scheduled for release on May 25, 2023 on multiple platforms, including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. A Nintendo Switch version will be released later in the same year.

Originally announced by Daedalic Entertainment in March 2019 with a 2021 release, the game was pushed back to 2022 following the announcement of the Nacon deal. On May 24, 2022, the game’s official Twitter page announced a new target release date of September 1, 2022 for Steam and PlayStation and Xbox consoles. It was revealed that the Nintendo Switch version would arrive on November 30, 2022. However, on July 25, 2022, the developers announced another delay of “a few months”. After missing out on the planned 2022 release, Nacon announced the game would release in May 2023 for Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox, with the Switch version following later that same year.
