CAPE RADIANCE Gala celebrates API women and non-binary entertainment luminaries – The Nerds of Color
CAPE (Coalition of Asian Pacifics in Entertainment), the organization leading the charge for API in entertainment, announced its inaugural RADIANCE event, celebrating the achievements of API Women and non-binary luminaries in entertainment. The event will take place on Tuesday, March 21 at The Ebell in Los Angeles.
Hosted by Merle Dandridge (The Last of Us), the event will honor influential cultural makers, influential makers and emerging talent, including the Cindy Y. Huang Rising Star Award to Tati Gabrielle (You, Kaleidoscope) and the Trailblazer Award to Hollywood Reporter editor Rebecca Sun.
“We were shocked (but not entirely surprised) that there was never an event during Women’s History Month celebrating API women and non-binary people in entertainment,” said Michelle K. Sugihara, executive director of CAPE, in a press release. “Despite the massive contributions they make to the entertainment industry, their accomplishments are often overlooked and CAPE is thrilled to shine a light on these talented individuals in front of and behind the camera.”
The evening will be hosted by Asian women and non-binary companies, including DJ sets by DJ KSLY and PRISM DJ’s Tessa. Sechel PR, a public relations company founded by an Asian woman, will lead the red carpet and the press. Proceeds from the event will support CAPE programs, including the CAPE New Writers Fellowship, CAPE Leaders (CLF) Fellowship, Julia S. Gouw Short Film Challenge for API Women and Non-Binary Filmmakers, and other initiatives, including the CAPE List, the CAPE Database, and Cultural Scenario Consulting.
