Best Louisville High School Fall Sports Performances of the Week


Here are the best storylines, performances and updates from the Louisville High School boys and girls football, field hockey and volleyball action from the past week:
soccer boys
Ballard (5-0) faced one of his toughest tests of the season last week and passed it with flying colors. The Bruins beat previously undefeated Paul Laurence Dunbar 4-1 thanks to a two-goal performance from James Maxwell. The senior midfielder has eight goals and four assists this season.
DeSales’ Tyler Mudd kept the Colts competitive in a 4-4 draw with Male on Thursday. Mudd finished the match with two goals and an assist.
Western picked up its first victory since 2009 on Thursday, beating Waggener 7-1. Goalkeeper Joseph Herthel put in an outstanding performance, registering nine saves.

Sacred Heart junior striker Aubrey Nolan led the No.2-ranked Valkyries to a 3-2 win over No.1 South Oldham on Wednesday after scoring two goals and an assist.
Assumption eased their dominance in a 13-0 win over Male on Thursday. Micaela Riley O’ Bryan led the charge with a hat trick, while Olivia Thomas and Anna Grace Gibson each scored twice.
Field hockey
Led by Hannah Riddle and Lucy Cohen, Assumption beat defending state champion Sacred Heart 2-1 in the Apple Tournament final on Friday.

Highlands Latin (6-1) is off to a great start to the season. Olivia Vonderheide scored three goals to lead the Highlanders to a 4-0 win over Mercy in the Apple Tournament Varsity B final on Friday.
Volleyball
Mercy’s senior outside hitter Maddie Hagan finished Wednesday with 14 kills, five digs and a block to lead the Jaguars to a 3-0 sweep over Sacred Heart.

Manual senior Nya Bunton led the Crimsons with 13 kills, two blocks, two digs and two service aces in Manual’s 3-0 sweep over Presentation on Friday. The Crimsons started 5-0, they will put their unbeaten game against Eastern (2-2) on Wednesday.
Holy Cross (9-1) has won its last four matches and hasn’t dropped a set in its last two. After sweeping Eastern and Pleasure Ridge Park last week, the Cougars look like a potential threat in the Sixth Region. Watch out for players Hannah Carter (101 assists), Mia Maloney (45 kills) and Trinity Ward (65 digs).
